Can You Bleach Your Hair While Pregnant
Olivia Luz
Before becoming pregnant i was dying my hair on the regular.
During the second trimester the baby is at less risk. When a woman is pregnant she should wait until after the first trimester to bleach her hair. The first trimester is critical for the baby s development and these fumes and chemicals could cause the most damage during this point of the pregnancy. It is largely considered safe as bleaching products contain diluted hydrogen peroxide mixed with ammonium hydroxide.
Most experts agree that bleaching your hair while pregnant is generally safe. If your doctor says that it s ok to put bleach directly on the scalp and you are comfortable with it go. I say probably because few studies actually exist examining the effects of bleach on pregnancy but many studies do show that skin absorption is relatively minimal. However there s a growing consensus that it s best to wait until your second or third trimester.
As with bleach other cleaning products come with a whole lot of alarm bells when mixed with pregnancy but this shouldn t be the case. In other words when you use bleach on your skin to lighten your hair it won t be transported immediately into your baby s system and cause harm. Breathing fumes in while bleaching the hair can be harmful to the baby. Work in a well ventilated area.

As long as you take precautionary measures when doing so it is perfectly safe. Another precaution to take if you re concerned about using hair dye or bleach when you re pregnant is to use products that pose less risk such as ammonia free hair dye vegetable dyes or opt for highlights or hair painting that don t touch the scalp. Obviously you should always check with your doctor about coloring your hair while pregnant.
