Why Do Dogs Lick Other Dogs Private Areas
Camila Farah
The fact that they do this in public can make their owners feel uncomfortable but dogs do lick their private parts for many different reasons.
Just like when dogs sniff genitals when they lick another dog s privates it s a very normal and healthy canine social behaviour. The licking of private parts could be for pleasure or to relieve some discomfort. Not only will it take care of your dog s discomfort it will also reduce the chances you ll have to deal with embarrassment when friends or family members stop by. However too much licking can be a sign that there s a larger problem at play and you should take your pup to the vet.
Dogs often lick out of curiosity to see what things and even other dogs taste like. The very first thing to do is to decide if the behavior is out of the ordinary. Male dogs will lick their penis and female dogs will lick their vulva and both sexes will lick their anus. Dogs have the uncanny ability to detect infection and other problems well before a human can.
