The short answer to the question then is that your dog s feet smell like corn chips simply because its their natural odor.
Many dogs paws do smell like fritos or popcorn depending on who you ask. The reason why they have that smell is rather mundane but we ll get to that. The causes of frito feet are natural enough but as in strong or acrid human bodily odors particularly where the feet are concerned there is little that s endearing about them. Yeast infections are caused by fungus which often give off the bread like smell similar to corn chips.
However proteus and pseudomonas bacteria can also provide this kind of smell especially when mixed with sweat. It is the combination of harmless bacteria and fungi that is responsible for that yeasty frito y smell on your dog s paws. If the odor really does bother you or it becomes much stronger than normal treat your pup to a mini pedicure. The small amounts of bacteria that are causing this distinct smell are very normal for dogs to harbor.
Dogs were not meant to wear shoes all the time in fact it is not good for their feet they do not get enough air to the pads and so you should not keep the shoes on the dog all the time in rain or really cold weather snow sleet hail yes put them on the dog to take outside only when back in the house take the shoes off and let the dogs pads breathe and get air. And to be honest human feet odors can be a whole lot worse than that if you ask me. Just like humans dogs are covered in these organisms and as they walk around both indoors and outdoors they pick up dirt and other debris that settles in between their toes. While not everyone finds the smell objectionable a yeast infection can become uncomfortable for your dog.
