Why Do People Think There Are 52 States

I thought there were 52 states up until i was about 11 years old.
If you think 50 continental states plus hawaii and alaska i could see how you could misconstrue it to be 52. Because there are 52 playing cards and they can t remember which one is 52 and which is 50. People think there are 52 because i think a lot of times people think there are 48 continental states plus hawaii and alaska which make 50. That may confuse some people into thinking there are 52 states.
Why do some people think there are technically 52 states in america. However they are being 100 serious and get annoyed when i tell them there are not. There thinking 50 plus hawaii and alaska 52. I recently stumbled across a blog post discussing the idea that a lot of people think that there are 52 states in the united states of america.
The island of puerto rico is located in the northeast area of the caribbean sea. I ve met people from at least hungary and germany who believe this and when i ask them why they think this they can t explain it nor tell me what states 51 and 52 are in their minds. Apparently the purpose of the blog the mandela effect is to consider why it is that different people remember the same event or historical fact differently. Don t ask me why because i honestly don t know where this story comes from but i always thought that the flag had 50 stars and then alaska and hawaii were the last two states to join which made 52 states but they didn t feel like adding two stars to the flag because it would screw up the pattern.
