Why do some things float while some others sink. Why do some objects sink while others float. Objects with tightly packed molecules are more dense than those where the molecules are spread out. This is partly why huge heavy ships float.
On the other hand when the displaced water is less than the weight of an object it sinks. Others have fewer particles that are packed more loosely. Objects with tightly packed particles are denser and sink. Some objects have lots of particles that are packed up together.
It also depends on its density. Objects with less particles are less dense and float. I know that the displacement of water needs to be equal to the weight of the object but then why do some objects like an anchor sink straight to the bottom regardless of how much water is present. Some objects that might have seemed sort of heavy like a wooden block probably floated.

Because some things are more thick through than others this is called density if it is more dense than the water it will sink the same applies to all liquid if you put an iron bolt on mercury. Wood paper leaves are less dense than water and float. If the displaced water is more than the weight of a particular thing then that object floats. A gold ring rocks clothes are all denser than water and so they sink in water.
This mainly happens because of a phenomena known as buoyancy. That is because whether an object sinks or floats in water doesn t just depend on its weight or size. Everything displaces water equal to its volume. Whether an object sinks or floats depends on its density and the density of the liquid into which it is placed.
