Generally the army s tattoo policy allows most tattoos with the exception of those that fall into the offensive categories above but forbids most of those that would be visible in uniform.
The army regulations do however allow one ring tattoo on each hand although it must not extend beyond where a ring naturally would rest on your finger between the lowest knuckle and your hand. Army tattoo regulations 670 1 for tattoos was last updated in april of 2015. The air force does not allow tattoos on the face head scalp neck tongue lips or eyelids. Usaf regs prohibit members from having tattoos visible when wearing any uniform other than the physical training uniform ptu.
Here s an easier way to remember this. Tattoos that are on the scalp or head are not allowed in the military. Are people with facial tattoos allowed to serve in the army. So im just wondering is it like this in every branch of the military that u cant have tattoos on your arms below the elbow.
Tattoo policy in all branches of the us military has changed and evolved and even flip flopped a few times. In all likelihood not unless they can get the tattoo removed first. Im thinkin about joining the military but i have some tattoos on the inside of both my forearms. I went and talked to some marine recruiters and they said i couldnt have tattoos there if i wanted to join the marines.

That is under a properly fitting standard physical training pt uniform crew neck t shirt and shorts a marine can have unlimited tattoos of all shapes sizes colors etc. Additionally the army will not accept you if you have tattoos inside your mouth ears or eyelids. The tattoo must not be visible on any part of the body of the soldier that is exposed while wearing any of the military uniforms. Along with creating a more liberal tattoo policy the air force also introduced defined locations that are not permitted in the military branch under the 2017 changes.
Marines can have tattoos anywhere on their chest back torso upper thighs groin area and upper arms. Tattoos are not allowed on the sleeves the legs and arms of the soldiers. Tattoos are ok under pt.
