Can You Substitute Lemon Juice For Lemon Zest

Orange zest or peels make an excellent alternative to lemon peels in baked goods. 2 tablespoon lemon juice. Fresh juice is preferable and may be frozen in batches to be used later. Use an equal amount of lime zest for your recipe in place of lemon zest.

Lemon juice can be used as a substitute for lemon zest in many recipes.
But if you want to try some other flavor then the flavor of the juice might not be as tasty and tangy as zest is. Lemon oil made from nothing but cold pressed lemon rinds is probably the most accurate substitute. Bottled juice can also be used. It will give you the closest flavor match possible.

Bottled organic juice is a reasonable replacement for lemon zest in many cases too. Keep in mind that the juice is acidic so it can have a sour flavor. Lemon juice can always be used as a substitute if you are short of lemon zest. Note that you will be adding both liquid and sweetness to your dish which means that you will need to make adjustments to the other.
Ideally you d want to use fresh lemon juice instead of bottled but if you have fresh lemons to squeeze for juice you d have them for zest right. For example in a whipped cream that needs to stay fluffy and light. 1 2 teaspoon lemon extract. 1 teaspoon lime zest.

Orange juice and peels. Finding a suitable substitute for lemon zest in recipes can be tricky but not impossible. Keep in mind that lemon juice is both sweet and sour and it adds liquid to the recipe.
